More news from SoM

Hey guys. More spoilers of SoM on mtgsalvation!
The emperion is an 8/8 beating stick that won't go down easily. And neither will you, since it won't let your life change. Kinda like platinum angel, but with the drawback that you can't pay nor gain life.
Hey, Trinket Mage is back! A needed reprint for an artifact block indeed :)

A HUGE clone in SoM. Seems nice. You have a Baneslayer? I have a 7/7 baneslayer! HA! :p

Replicas seem to be back also. Like their mirrodin counterparts, they are replicas of existing races (or, in this case, classes) tipical of the color their replicating. This one seems nice, since it's removal in this edition :p

Proliferate, then proliferate again? O.O Wow! It puts a -1/-1 counter on each of your opponents creatures also, then proliferating to create a gap for a huge attack, and maybe pumping some of your own creatures with +1/+1 counters if they have any. Very nice.
Nice one. This will be somewhat picked because it's an artifact, I guess. Seems nice with proliferate though...
A Myr lord. Seems that the Myr are going to be a major race in SoM rather than a minor addition, like in Mirrodin. And untap each other Myr? Since you got the Myrs that give mana, with 2 of these Myrs you can go infinite fireball rather easily. Is WotC realy printing this? O.O
Hehe! Mindslaver's back too! :D
And with nicer art!

New SoM

Hey. The Mind Flayer's back with some new SoM spoilers, direclty from mtgsalvation.
First of all, new ability: Metalcraft. As we'll see troughout the rest of the spoiler, metalcraft works when you control 3 or more artifacts. In this case, we have an 8/8 trample for 4 as long as you control 3 or more artifacts. In limited play this is going to be awesome. In a set full fo artifacts, metalcraft is easy!
Meh. Well... this might be good in limited play, but only because it costs nothing to activate.
From "meh" to legendary dragon goodness :p
Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon is a 4/4 flying infector regenerator for 5 that becomes all that and gains haste if you pay 1 more. And, if you ask him nice, I think it makes coffee and toasts too!
It seems the spellbombs are back. For the look of it, the new mechanic is "X, tap, sacrifice: do something and more (probably draw) if you pay 1 specific mana." I think the previous spellbombs were better, but let's wait to see the others.
Proliferating 1/1 flyer for 2. Here birdie birdie birdie! :p
A 6 mana 5/5 flying artifact is nice. A 6 mana 5/5 artifact that breaths fire for 2 is pretty cool. A 6 mana 5/5 flying artifact that breathes fire for 2 and makes Days of Judgement to nonland permanents with converted mana cost X that only your oponent controls... O.O *faint*
Hahaha, me and a friend had a talk about this. A card that simply said Proliferate. And here comes WotC and prints a proliferating instant cantrip! There you go Pedro :p
Ah, our first Planeswalker. Venser the Sojourner. A 5 mana UW planeswalker that seems made for the UW planeswalker control deck. Blink Sun Titan, Day of Judgement, Sun Titan returns, return something from my graveyard. It seems great, and the -1 ability also fits nicely into the UW, letting it attack for the kill with Colonnades and Sun Titans. I dunno about the ultimate, but it also seems nice, although i'm not seeing it get much use.
Another metalcrafter. This time, a "Bear" that becomes 4/4. Nice.
Who doesn't like 0 mana creatures? :p
This seems nice, especialy when your oponent is at 9 poison and swetting :p

This seems a nice addition for the Goblin tribe. A 1/1 trample that get's +2/+0 for each equipment. If the equipment gives +1/+1, it's a 4/2 trample. I'm hopping for some cheap equipments to swing this baby at turn 2 or, at least, turn 3.

An indestructible equipment. Well, equipments were never much the target for destruction, but never the less, the +2/+0 for 2 is not that bad.

Imprint is back, and with it, Clone Shell. A 2/2 for 5 seems kinda bad, but the ability to put a free biggie into the battlefield when it dies compensates for it I guess.

Who doesn't like a 1/1 infecter flyer for 2?

Palladium Myr comes to bring back the ramp into limited. Turn 3 one of this, turn 4 a 6 mana biggie. Nice.

Now on to the imageless cards:
.
Elspth Tirel 3WW
Planeswalker - Elspeth
+2: You gain 1 life for each creature you control
-2: Put three 1/1 white soldier creature tokens onto the battlefield
-5: Destroy all other permanents except for lands and tokens
[4]
.
Monowhite/XW tokens anyone? :p
.
Tempered Steel 1WW
Enchantment
Artifact creatures you control get +2/+2.
.
Bahroken? :p
.
Ichorclaw Myr 2
Artifact Creature - Myr
Infect
Whenever Ichorclaw Myr becomes blocked, it gets +2/+2 until end of turn.
1/1
.
So so. Good for a common I guess.
.
Mox Opal 0
Legendary Artifact
Metalcraft - tap: add 1 mana of any color to your mana pool. Activate this ability only if you control three or more artifacts
.
In a set with this many artifacts, I really don't see Metalcraft hard to achieve :p

New spoilers for Scars of mirrodin

Hey guys. New spoiler alert from mtgsalvation:

Let's start with a nice common. 3 mana 2/2 flying is not a much of a deal. It's a pretty common common card. The 2 life gives it a good edge though. As with all flyers, this will be a high pick in drafts for shure.

Who doesn't like Thought Hemorrhage? Memoricide is an all black Hemorrhage that doesn't deal the damage. Well, with Hemorrhage rotating out, this will be welcomed into the envyronment :D

Sword of body and mind. A green and blue themed artifact. The text isn't very legible, so i'll say whats important. +2+2, protection from green and blue. Whenever the creature deals combat damage to an oponent, put a 2/2 wolf and mill 10. Wow. I mean, even if they manage to get the sword wielder killed, the wolf can always pick up the sword and produce more 2/2! Kick ass equipment!

With the return of poison and whiter (see previous post), R&D had to come up a way to make them even better. Proliferate does the trick. Also, very good with planeswalkers. And in draft, it's kinda removal, and works great if your building up around poison or wither.

Yeah. Kickass, isn't it? Oh wait, that's in...japanese? Chinese? Whatever, someone will correct me in the comment section so let's say it's written in Martian :p here's the english version:

Wurmcoil Engine 6
Artifact Creature - Wurm (MR)

Deathtouch, Likelink

When Wurmcoil Engine is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, put a 3/3 colorless Wurm artifact creature token with deathtouch and a 3/3 colorless Wurm artifact creature token with lifelink onto the battlefield.

6/6

So...yeah... Do I need to say anything?

New Scars of Mirrodin speculation

Hey guys. The Mind Flayer is back from his long absence, this time with some SoM previews/speculation.

First of, new mechanic:

In yesterday's arcana at WotC, they release this information, without refering if it will be present in SoM or not, but most think that it will be. Let's take a look:

Infect (This creature deals damage in the form of -1/-1 counters and to players in the form of poison counters.)

Yeap, that's wither AND poison in the same ability, although this is actualy better than poisonous. If you remember, poisonous was something like this:

Poisonous X (Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, that player gets X poison counters. A player with ten or more poison counters loses the game.) remember also that X was usualy 1.

Now, it gives poison counters equal to the damage it deals wich, i think, it's an inprovement and might even see constructed play.

On to the next one.

"Just to add more fuel to the split set idea, I received some WPN info on the Scars Game Day from wizards. The day will have an optional constructed feature called "affiliated decks". This is important enough to have specific prizes for - the prizes are preview cards for Mirrodin Besieged.

From the email:
"The ultimate constructed deck event – with a twist!

Scars of Mirrodin Game Day gives your customers a shot at glory in the coming conflict. Available for the first time to Core level WPN locations around the world, Scars of Mirrodin Game Day is a great way for your local players to interact and see how the new cards shape the Constructed metagame.

Scars of Mirrodin Game Day features a standard format, showcasing the new cards in the most popular format world-wide. Players will also have the option to “affiliate” their deck to earn special prizes.

Event Prizes
A foil card for the top 8 winners!
Preview cards from Mirrodin Besieged™ for the top 4 “affiliated” winners."

Also one of the key selling points given is "Scars of Mirrodin will have an integrated consumer experience unlike any previous Magic™ set."

I won't rant much about this one, so read the thread if you want for speculation. Anyway, I think it's a great idea what they're discussing there.

The main point however is: Will the top qualified affiliated decks decide wich will be the third set in the SoM block? If the decks affiliated with New Phyrexia get higher standing than the ones from Mirrodin Pure, will it mean that the third set will be story based on the destruciton of Mirrodin by the Phyrexians?

Stay tuned for more developments, here at the Dumb Mind Flayer!

New confirmations for M11

Let's start out with small, not so exciting cards.

Get it? No? I'll explain then...

Captivating Vampire

1bb
Creature - Vampire Rare
Other Vampire Creatures you control get +1/+1.
Tap 5 untapped Vampires you control: Gain control of target creature. It becomes a Vampire in addition to its other types. (This effect doesn't end at end of turn)

2/2

Ok, It's a vampire lord. Cool. Vampires will stay in T2 as a playable tribal deck. But this one is more than just a lord. It let's you do mind control to your oponents creatures. You have an Emrakul? Now I have a Vampire Emrakul! Sweet card.

Ok this is all for today.

Although I feel I'm missing something huge...

Oh yeah, the reprints!

Confirmed reprints until now include Fireball, Lightning Bolt (nice!), the 5 duals from M10 (very nice!) and the one and only Bane

(wait for it)

slayer Angel!!! Wizards of the Coast, we love you guys!!!

So sit back, relax, and let me flay your mind.

M11 first spoilers

Hi again. I'm back to posting and, with me, comes the first M11 spoilers. So, let's get down to business!

The first one is a reprint from an "old" card thats been printed in every core set (excepth for ninth edition) and in ravnica. It doesn't have an image, but it will have at least 1 alternate art because it's the buy-a-box promo. It's, yeah you got it, Birds of Paradise.

Next up, cards with picture preview from the Archenemy product, wich are though to have a place in M11.

First up, Sorcerer's Strongbox. A random draw 3 artifact. It may not seem like it, but I realy think this is a good card. Let me tell you why. Why is the reason that UW control is one of the best decks in T2 format? The answer is: Draw. Blue has the most powerfull draw cards in magic and having card advantage is great. So, if a mono-red deck or a mono-green deck could get their hands on a playset of this babies, it would most certainly rock!

Next up, the Baneslayer hate card, Plummet. A simple instant that destroys a flying creature. If Baneslayer stays in Standard after the rotation, I guess well see a lot of play from this baby here.

Chandra's Outrage. I would play this in a burn deck. It kills a big creature AND it punishes your oponent for ever thinking about playing that creature. For a 4 mana common (at least in Archenemy) it's a hell of a card!

Reassembling skeleton brings back some sort of unearth mechanic into M11. For 2, it returns to the battlefield at instant speed, although tapped. It's nicely used at the end of your oponents turn, or against a "sacrifice a creature" card, or against mass removal. I don't think it will see Standard decks, but it will see Limited play for sure.

It's all for today. Thanks for reading.

So sit back, relax, and let me flay your mind.
